The Illustrative Art of John D Moulton.
Hello … and thank you for your interest in my work.
Born in Manchester, England in April 1947, my art has been my passion for as long as I can remember. My appreciation for portraiture and the animal kind goes back way before my teens and remains with me to this day.
I had no formal education in art. I finished school in 1962 at fifteen and was married by the age of eighteen. With a growing family to care for my art remained on the back-burner for many years, but never far from sight. Always, somewhere amidst the turmoil of husbandry, fatherhood, and work-related ambition, my art continued to shine through. I drew in pencils, dabbled in water colour, played with my airbrush, and overcame a life-long fear of oils.
More recently (2021), I became fascinated by creations in digital art and now quite comfortable playing around on my Wacom Tablet and computer screen. Never too late to learn something new – I say, go with your passion – dare to see where it leads.
Here, at JDM-ART.com I showcase my work as an illustrator of children’s books – for me, a discipline I find best suited to my colour pencils and the wonders of digital creativity. From childhood I have been a huge fan of artworks by Beatrix Potter of Peter Rabbit fame and more. She is my inspiration in this field with my preference for a semi-realistic look to my work.
